District 80 LGM's Message for October 2010
Dear Fellow Toastmasters,
Every year a small group of Division T leaders organize a Speechcraft caravan for Piriyalai High School students in Phrae province which is 551 km from Bangkok. We have to fly to Phitsanulok, a distance of 369 km, and then travel on a minibus for another 182 km to get to our destination.
This year on Saturday August 28th, we flew to Phitsanulok for the Speechcraft.
At the Phitsanulok airport, we bumped into a Director of Bangkok Medical Center by accident.
She used to be a member of a Toastmasters Club in Bangkok however she quit because it is too far away from her workplace. She asked me whether there is any Club near her place.
I said,
“No, but you can always build a new Club in your workplace.”
She subsequently gathered 40 members and plans to charter a new Club in November.
What a great leader!
Toastmasters Clubs are formed every day in a variety of settings. Clubs meet onsite at corporations, churches, community centers – even in restaurants.
The process to form a Toastmasters Club is simple and all of the materials are provided in the TI website.
In fact everyone can start a Toastmasters Club onsite at his organization.
Steps to start:
* Find at least twenty people who want to improve their communication and leadership skills.
* Determine a meeting location to get together for about an hour or two a week.
* Fill out the application forms.
* Schedule your first official meeting.
Contact the district leaders so they can support your efforts, as needed.
Details:
* US$125: One-time chartering fee
* US$20: New-member fee per person
* US$27: Six months’ membership dues per person
* Each club can charge supplementary dues to help cover expenses, if needed
Next time someone asks you whether there is any Club near his place and there is none, you can always say, “No, but you can always build a new Club.”
Yours Sincerely,
Dr Veerapan Chanyasak ACB
